Flor de Alma means “Flower of the Soul”
For neurodivergent children and their families, the name reflects the belief that every child has a unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world. Just as a flower grows in its own time and in its own way, children thrive when their individual strengths, needs, and rhythms are understood and supported.
Flor de Alma is rooted in the idea that development is not about changing who a child is, but about nurturing the conditions that allow them to grow, connect, and participate meaningfully in daily life. Through compassionate guidance, collaborative care, and developmentally supportive strategies, families are supported in helping their child flourish.
Dr. Alexa Greif, MS, OTD, OTR/L
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Alexa and I have worked as an occupational therapist with neurodiverse children and families for 15+ years.
At Flor de Alma, I offer a nurturing space for children to grow emotionally, spiritually, and developmentally. My approach is grounded in the science of occupational therapy and woven with intuitive, heart-led practices that respect each child’s unique way of experiencing the world.
If you’re a parent of a neurodiverse or highly sensitive child, you may be searching for something that goes beyond traditional therapy, that supports not just skills and milestones, but your child’s inner world, emotional regulation, sensory needs, and sense of self. My services are provided within the child’s natural environment, whether the need is at school, home or in the community, I meet your child where they are.
Together, we’ll explore meaningful ways to support their growth through therapeutic play, co-regulation, and compassionate presence. Whether we’re addressing coordination, picky eating, emotional overwhelm, sensory sensitivity or peer dynamics, everything we do is rooted in love, respect, and the belief that your child is already whole.
I welcome families of all spiritual or cultural backgrounds with openness and care. My work is not about imposing beliefs, it’s about offering tools, insight, and safe connection to help your child bloom from the inside out.
Who I Work With
At Flor de Alma, I support children who experience the world in beautifully unique ways, those who may not always fit into neat developmental boxes, but whose inner lives are rich, complex, and worth discovering.
This work is especially for children who are:
Neurodiverse (autism, ADHD, etc.)
Non-verbal or nonspeaking
Emotionally reactive or highly sensitive
Impulsive, hyperactive, or constantly moving
Shy, withdrawn, or slow to warm up
Low arousal or frequently “zoned out”
Clumsy or struggling with motor coordination
Anxious, cautious, or rigid in routines
Experiencing developmental delays or differences
Picky eaters or have restricted diets
Services Offered
I support children and their families through individualized, relationship-based care that blends clinical expertise with intuitive, compassionate presence. My work is grounded in helping children feel safe in their bodies, confident in themselves, and more able to participate in daily life, especially at school. I am a Doctor of Occupational Therapy trained and licensed in the United States (Illinois), with my master’s and doctoral degrees academically recognized in Portugal. I am currently completing final professional authorization with the relevant regulatory body. Until this process is finalized, services are provided within the scope of developmental, therapeutic consultation and OT-informed intervention.
✴︎ OT-Informed Intervention
Developmentally rooted, play-based, child-led and relationship-focused sessions that support sensory processing, emotional regulation, motor skills, handwriting, executive functioning, daily routines and more. Interventions are always tailored to your child’s unique strengths and challenges, with a strong focus on helping them engage, learn, and participate more fully in their daily lives, in ways that feel supportive, not pressured.
✴︎ Pediatric Feeding & Mealtime Support
Regulated, attuned, child-led feeding sessions that supports children who experience stress, avoidance, sensory sensitivities, or rigidity around food. Sessions focus on building emotional safety, curiosity, and confidence with eating through play, exploration, and relationship, never pressure. Using developmentally appropriate strategies rooted in the Sequential-Oral-Sensory Approach to Feeding (SOS Approach), children are supported to better tolerate, interact with, and gradually expand their food repertoires in ways that respect their nervous system and individual pace. Parent collaboration is woven throughout to support mealtimes at home and participation in school or community eating routines.
✴︎ Parent / Teacher Support & Consultation
Collaborative sessions designed to help you understand your child more deeply, strengthen co-regulation and communication, and feel more confident responding to emotional, sensory, or behavioral challenges, particularly those that show up around school, routines, and transitions. Support is practical, compassionate, and grounded in your real daily life.
How I Work
With the whole child: body, mind, and spirit.
Every child is different. And so is every developmental path.
I bring together my clinical training as an occupational therapist with intuitive tools to support children in ways that feel safe, respectful, and aligned with real-life goals, including participation, relationships, and daily routines.
This is a space where we move slowly and intentionally, in partnership with families and caregivers. Progress is not rushed or forced; it unfolds through trust, consistency, and co-regulation. Your child’s nervous system, emotional safety, and sense of trust guide everything we do, because lasting growth happens when children feel understood, supported, and empowered to be themselves.
